About Elena
Hola! I have been working as a tutor for many years, teaching a variety of languages and subjects. I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish and wrote my thesis on the short stories of Julio Cortázar. I have completed graduate level studies in Spanish Linguistics where my focus was on indigenous languages and language contact. I have spent most of my adulthood living in Latin America. First I lived in sunny Mexico, which I fell in love with and paved the way for me living and working in Paraguay where I met my now husband, a Peruvian who I followed to his native country where we lived for two years.
In Peru I taught at a public university and privately tutored English, Spanish and piano. We moved to State College where I pursued graduate studies in Spanish Linguistics and taught for the university. Now I spent my time privately tutoring in person and online with frequent trips back to Latin America.

-Peninsular and Latin American literature
-Peninsular and Latin American history and culture
-Professional and business Spanish (ie. industry vocab, email writing, etc)
I am passionate about Spanish and try to make lessons as dynamic as possible. I love pulling in cultural relevance and sharing anecdotes that help the student connect to the language. Please let me know if you have any questions about my teaching style or experience!
