About Lorie
Hi! I’m Lorie, a trilingual tutor passionate about helping students achieve confidence and excellence in Chinese language learning. I'm currently a third-year Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Melbourne, but I've always had a deep connection to languages and communication—especially Mandarin and Cantonese, which I speak fluently alongside English. Growing up in Hong Kong and now living in Melbourne, I understand the challenges of navigating multiple languages and cultural contexts. This allows me to connect with students from diverse backgrounds, explain concepts clearly, and build lessons that are both effective and enjoyable.

As a passionate and experienced tutor, I focus on creating a supportive, engaging, and structured learning environment for students studying Chinese as a Second Language Advanced (SLA) or for general language enrichment.
My Approach:
I believe in tailoring each lesson to the student’s individual learning style and goals. I use a student-centered and interactive approach, combining:
* Vocabulary building and grammar reinforcement
* Practical conversation practice with real-life scenarios
* Listening and reading comprehension using past exam papers, news, and short stories
* Writing techniques and cultural insights to improve expression and fluency
* I also guide students on how to structure analytical essays, improve pronunciation, and master oral presentations—especially important for VCE-level performance tasks.
