I am an intermediate player and Matias has shown me tons of concepts and ideas that I was unfamiliar with. He meets you at your level, and challenges you every session. He supplies a ton of studies, puzzles, and tests, to keep you working toward your goals. Highly recommend him!

Matias is a fantastic coach. He has a great eye for catching my mistakes and is great at pushing me beyond my comfort zone. He makes me do the hard things and it has been paying off. I've been able to defeat 2 players 200~300 elo higher than me and I attribute that to my work with Matias. He provides homework after every session and tailors each session to what he feels like I need to work on the most. He is patient and easy to work with. If you are looking for someone to give you structured lessons in a way that's challenging but rewarding, then look no further.

I wasn't sure about getting a chess coach at first (Will I actually improve? Is my rating high enough? Am I too old for this?), but my experience with Matías has been fantastic. He is very friendly and passionate about chess and he was quick to evaluate my current level, even taking the time to review a few of my games before the first meeting. The lessons are interactive: we solve puzzles, practice calculation, review master-level games, and learn positional concepts. He is very patient, even when I'm taking a long time to understand a position.

Most impressive is the amount of work Matías puts into preparing lessons beforehand and preparing resources/exercises to work on in-between lessons. He has a great understanding of what'll be the most valuable use of your time based on your own personal goals. In just a few weeks, I went from feeling completely hardstuck in my chess progression, to feeling spoiled for choice in ways I can continue to improve my game. Huge recommend!

Matias is an excellent chess coach! I'm an adult woman who took up chess later in life. We've only been training together for 3 months and I already see USCF rating gains. Matias is patient, friendly, and organized. He's thoughtful with his lessons and provides fun and interesting materials tailored to the needs of the student. Matias has been fantastic at understanding my skill level (1600 elo) and then building personalised lessons to help me improve. These are very engaging and although sometimes tough, I always end the lesson feeling like I've really benefited.
My chess calculation and understanding of positions in particular have improved massively and I can see a direct improvement in the results I'm having over the board. Matias is also great at going through my over-the-board games with me and can easily describe specific ideas, which is better than simply looking at a 10-move engine line and trying to understand why the computer thinks you're winning at the end.

Matías is an unbelievably thoughtful instructor. After the first couple of lessons, I could feel the level of preparation and attention to detail through his chess exercises. In the beginning, he expressed his big picture idea for teaching chess, and since then, he continues to back up his macro level strategy for teaching with incredibly intentional puzzles. Each puzzle hits precisely on an area of my brain that Matías intends to develop; sometimes I can’t help but smile when he shows me a new exercise and I can feel the specific muscle in my brain trying to solve the problem
It's obvious to me that Matías spends an enormous amount of time designing and refining his lesson plans. It’s also clear to me that his passion for the game makes the experience of each lesson singular. When I was first looking for a chess coach, I was uncertain if I really wanted to find one. Do I want to spend the money? Will I really improve? I had previous coaching experience, but it didn't feel very organized and it didn't help as much as I was hoping. Coach Matías is an excellent coach. He does not charge too much but is very organized and methodical. He has many materials planned out which really made me grasp the positional concepts I used to lack. I really have improved and I look forward to reaching new heights with such an amazing tutor.

Matias is an incredible chess coach. Every lesson is meticulously well-thought out and designed to both build a strong foundation in fundamental chess principles and address my specific weaknesses and development areas. The lessons build on and complement one another as well. Not only are his chess lessons highly informative and productive, they’re also fun. Historical examples are usually the basis for his lessons; we’ve studied games ranging from the top players in modern chess to funny, but instructive casual games played between grandmasters and amateurs. Throughout the games, he asks great questions like “the intuitive move is x, but that’s a huge blunder, why?” He teaches you to think about chess the right way.
Matias not only understands the best / most effective lines, he also understands the context of the games— the moment in history in which the game occurred, where the players were in their careers, and insight into what they were thinking at the time. He’s also highly responsive to ad hoc requests to review personal games.
Many great players aren’t the best teachers; however, Matias is both. Finally, Matias is a kind and generous person. I can’t recommend him highly enough. I highly encourage you to invest your time and money in getting better at chess with Matias. You won’t regret it!

My chess lesson with Matías every Wednesday night has been the highlight of my week! He is a kind, patient, empathetic instructor whose mastery of the game is obvious. He is an excellent teacher, has wonderful rapport with her, and has motivated my daughter unlike any other coach. His english is quite good and does an excellent job breaking down and explaining even the most complex topics.

I first became interested in chess as an adult.  Before working with Matías I was teaching myself. I hit a wall. I just stopped getting better. I knew what I needed to work on... or I thought I did. I did more chessable spaced repetition for openings, played more games and watched more YouTube videos (thinking processes, endgames, tactics, instructional GM games.
