About Sean

I’m Sean, a maths graduate who has just finished an MSc in Mathematical Finance at Warwick, so I’ve spent the last few years doing way too many exams myself. I remember what it’s like to stare at a question with no idea where to start, and how good it feels when it finally clicks. Helping someone get to that second feeling is why I enjoy tutoring.

My background spans pure maths, statistics and its use in finance, including work at UBS and as a quantitative consultant. That means I can explain the same idea several ways, from step-by-step working to why it matters in the real world.

I’m patient, friendly and won’t make you feel silly for asking a question twice (or three times). Outside maths you’ll usually find me at the gym, which taught me the same lesson as revision: steady practice beats last-minute cramming.

About the lesson

No two lessons look the same, because no two topics (or students) are stuck in the same way. One week we might spend 40 minutes taking a single tough problem apart from every angle until it properly clicks. The next might be a quick-fire test to find gaps before they find you in the exam. I’ll adapt as we go rather than sticking to one routine just because it worked last time.

Lessons usually run for an hour and are online, with a shared whiteboard so we can work through problems together. I’m happy to follow your exam board, homework or past papers, or build a plan from scratch.

I have a first-class degree in Maths, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics from Lancaster and an MSc in Mathematical Finance from Warwick. I’ve also used maths in real jobs, including consultancy and banking internships, so I can try to help explain where it actually ends up (spoiler: not just in exams).

I tutor GCSE and A Level Maths, Further Maths and sciences, plus university statistics, probability and financial maths.
