About Adrian
Having recently retired after more than 30 years teaching GCSE and A-level sciences, including serving as Head of Physics, I feel I still have a great deal to offer young people. Over the course of my career, I have developed a wealth of subject knowledge, teaching skills and experience, and I believe it would be a wasted opportunity to walk away from teaching when I could still make a real difference to students who need extra support. As an AQA examiner, I also bring a clear understanding of examination requirements and what students need to do to achieve their potential. My approach to tutoring is driven by the belief that the right guidance and encouragement can transform a student's confidence and outcomes. I find it particularly rewarding to help those who are struggling to overcome difficulties and discover what they are capable of achieving. Outside teaching, I am a family man and grandfather, a keen amateur musician and enjoy a variety of hobbies. I hope to bring the experience, patience, enthusiasm and personal commitment of a lifetime in education to every student I tutor.

I believe every student has the potential to succeed with the right support, guidance and encouragement. Throughout my teaching career, I have helped students across the ability range, from those who have struggled with science and feared failure to high achievers aiming for the very best grades. Alongside teaching my own classes, I also held responsibility for raising achievement across the science department, giving me extensive experience of identifying barriers to learning and helping students make meaningful progress.
My approach combines high expectations with personalised support. I recognise that every student learns differently, and I adapt my teaching to suit their individual needs, abilities and aspirations. Whether a student needs to rebuild confidence, address gaps in their subject knowledge, develop exam technique or tackle the most challenging questions, I aim to provide the right level of support and challenge to help them move forward.
Building a positive rapport is central to my approach. Students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and tackling subjects they may previously have found daunting. By creating a supportive environment, setting clear goals and providing constructive feedback, I help students develop not only their understanding of science but also their confidence and independence as learners.
My aim is always to help each student achieve their full potential, whether that means securing a pass they once thought was beyond them or reaching the highest grades of which they are capable. I want students to leave each session feeling more confident, better equipped and motivated to succeed.
Sessions are normally one hour in length and are primarily tailored for Key Stage 3 or 4 students. Post 16 students looking to resit examinations are also welcome.
