About Haven
Hi, I’m Haven! I recently graduated from UCSB with a bachelor's in Psychology and Sociology and working towards being a therapist. In my high school years I earned a 5 in AP Chemistry and AP Calc BC and became an AP Scholar with Distinction. I was also selected to be Dean’s Honors during college. I'm also a native speaker of Mandarin and consider English to be my first language too due to being fluent at a young age and having zero difficulty adapting to American high schools after moving from China, where I grew up.
Through years of school, I’ve realized how much difference a good teacher can make. My favorite teachers have not only made me academically successful, but also fall in love with the subjects they teach. Now I want to do the same for other students!

After learning from diverse teachers and professors, I’ve identified traits good educators share. I’m eager to utilize them to help you earn good grades and have fun.
The first trait: care. I want to learn all about you and work as a team. I’ll always be understanding and friendly, because I know the value of a welcoming, non-judgmental environment.
I'll also teach the most accurate and efficient solutions, and give psychological tips that help learning in general. For example, cramming is bad because the reviewed material fades away very quickly. Reviewing a little at a time is better.
Finally, I’ll have you explain how you would approach each question. My favorite professor often says, “The best way to truly understand a concept is to explain it to a friend, sibling or even a stuffed animal.” There’s also a Chinese proverb stating “Teaching is part of learning.” Having you “teach” me can further solidify your understanding.
