I have been learning French with Veronique for some years. She has proved to be an inspirational and engaging teacher. Our lessons have not only covered the French language but also French culture and current events (all in French). Through her lessons, I have completely lost the nervousness and embarrassment I used to feel when attempting to converse with French speakers.

I’ve had lessons with Veronique for several years, primarily working towards completing my French language degree. Véronique is an amazing French tutor, and the best way to explain why is to tell you my story.

I started learning French with her in 2017. She's French, lives in the UK and patiently took me from the foggy memories of school French (I was 49, now 58) to speaking without fear. I had two goals from the outset: to be able to spend an hour each week chatting with her in French about everyday life, and to communicate with the French colleagues I worked with professionally instead of always expecting them to speak English.

It didn't take long for the lessons to make a real difference. Within the first year, I was able to give basic instructions to French security staff in French - which certainly got their attention! By the second year, I was replying to work emails and text messages in French about the events we were running.

Today, those original goals have been achieved. We spend our lessons chatting about life, current affairs and whatever else comes to mind including 'L'histoire de...' whoever we're going to gossip about this week. I can read almost anything in French, write reasonably well, and I've even written and delivered a speech in French.

Learning French isn't just something I do anymore - it's part of my week and part of my life. I only wish I had more time to devote to it. Listening and hearing what's said is still the hardest part, and I'd love nothing more than to disappear to France for a while to immerse myself completely.
