About Tori

I’m a professional cellist and double bassist with over 25 years of experience, performing and teaching students of all ages and abilities. Whether you’re working towards Grade 8 or simply playing for the joy of it, I tailor lessons to suit each individual. My musical roots are classical, but my career has taken me across folk, rock, blues and jazz, performing with orchestras, theatre companies, bands and musical productions. After spending 10 years in Paris working with orchestras, dance companies, theatres and rock bands, I returned to Stratford-upon-Avon in 2003, where my musical journey continues to flourish. As a professional cellist, I regularly perform in theatre pits for productions with organisations such as Royal Shakespeare Company, Warwick Arts Centre, Belgrade Theatre and Stratford ArtsHouse. I also perform for weddings, corporate events and special occasions, offering solo cello or ensembles ranging from duo (violin/viola and cello) to full quartet, creating the perfect atmosphere for each event. Alongside live performance, I work as a session musician in recording studios and perform in a variety of ensembles, from duos and trios to bands. I’m the cellist in Rockin Bows and double bassist for The Lounge Club jazz band. Teaching is a huge part of what I do. I’m an experienced cello and double bass teacher (also teaching bass guitar, guitar and ukulele), working in primary and secondary schools as well as from my two studios in Stratford-upon-Avon and near Alcester. I also run unique cello and string ensembles, bringing players together to explore everything from classical repertoire to rock in a fun, supportive environment. My sessions are popular and tend to fill quickly, so early booking is recommended.

About the lesson

Music genres classical to rock, folk to jazz and playing what the students wish to work on is most important ethos in my lessons. Tailor made lessons to highlight what the student would like to work on with the professional tips on technique, advice on musical notation and tone.

Perfect! Thanks to Tori for her patience with my endless questions. I love the flexibility in our lessons and the emphasis on joy and individual progress rather than the straightjacket of some programme. Feeling so lucky with this teacher!

Tori is a brilliant teacher, a fabulous professional cellist and always cheerful and fun in the lessons. I recommend her . I’ve been having lessons with her for 18 months from beginner. She makes lessons very individualised to your learning style and preferences, focusing on ways that will allow you to progress quickly. She also sometimes plays along with you which is a huge help as it allows you to improve so much more quickly especially with bow technique and intonation. She’s got two beautiful music studios where she does her lessons, so you can be flexible and choose a time and location which works for you. She also runs group workshops for all levels every couple of months so you meet other players at different stages and abilities and we play different music styles together. I’ve just done the Irish one (next one in March) which was amazing and we played Irish reels and learned the techniques for making the music really sound Celtic. All the players could choose their own parts/adaptations so there were beginners and very experienced players all able to play together and all make progress! Absolutely brilliant how she does this. She does a symphony in a day too twice a year with a big group which I’m going to be in for the first time this year. Really looking forward. Fabulous teacher if you want to make real progress and have fun at the same time!

I always have a great time in my lessons with Tori. The variety of music that I get to play challenges me and helps me to improve. Lessons are full of laughter and because it is fun helps me to remember what I have learned.
