I'm on a gap year after leaving school, and am going to study mechanical engineering at Durham University. I'm looking to teach maths and physics, up to and including Advanced Higher/A level.

About Hannah
I graduated from my senior school in 2024 and decided to take a gap year before starting my Mechanical Engineering course at the University of Durham. I wanted to take time to develop essential life skills outside of school and to learn more about what made me so interested in my chosen degree. I have discovered a passion for space exploration, astrophysics, and robotics. I regularly help my siblings with their maths homework, but I like to make sure they figure the answer out themselves so they can apply the skills in class. During my final year at school I supported the Maths Helpline lunch club where students could do their homework or revision and be supported when they had difficulty with a question. There were usually only 2 teachers, and the classroom would often become busy, so I acted as a 3rd source of academic support. Outside of teaching maths, I spent time as a Volunteer Language Ambassador teaching Mandarin to students aged 8-10. I created lessons with a classmate and we co-delivered them. We managed to succeed in producing and presenting several engaging lessons on a variety of topics in Mandarin. In my final year, I volunteered as a Mentor in Violence Prevention where I co-delivered lessons to students aged 11-13 on topics such as what they could do when faced with uncomfortable or difficult situations, and the role of bystanders in those situations. I've discovered I enjoy sharing what I know and the passion I have for maths and physics. I would like to bring this into my life beyond the school environment because I think learning is really fun and I want to provide you with the best boost to your education that I can give.

I enjoy providing one-to-one support and am happy to do this in person (must be based in Edinburgh) or through Zoom. I prefer to tutor by the hour, but I can be flexible to a student's needs. I achieved As in Maths, Maths of Mechanics, and Physics at Advanced Higher level and will be going on to study engineering. I also have Highers in Chemistry, English, and Mandarin. I have experience in teaching younger students between the ages of 8-14 in both languages and maths, but I'm also interested in tutoring older students working towards National 5s/GCSEs, Highers/AS, and Advanced Highers/A levels who want to build a stronger maths and science background. If you're looking for a patient, non-judgemental learning environment that caters to building a strong foundation in STEM, I would be delighted to help you with your journey!
