About Finlay
I’m Finlay, a Natural Sciences student at the University of Leeds, where I study Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. I achieved A*s in A-Level Maths and Chemistry and an A in Physics, as well as Grade 9s at GCSE.
I have experience tutoring students in Maths and Science and really enjoy helping people understand topics they may initially find difficult. I’m good at breaking complicated ideas down into clear, manageable steps and adapting my explanations depending on how each student learns best.
Having completed my GCSEs and A-levels recently, I have a strong understanding of the current courses, exam styles and the pressures students face. I can therefore share not only subject knowledge, but also the revision methods, exam techniques and approaches to difficult questions that helped me achieve my own grades.

My lessons are tailored to each student’s current ability, weaker topics and target grade. I focus on making difficult concepts easier to understand rather than simply encouraging students to memorise information.
Once the underlying content is understood, we work through exam-style questions to develop the skills needed to apply that knowledge and consistently pick up marks. I also focus heavily on exam technique, calculations, required practicals, command words and common mistakes.
For GCSE students, I can teach Combined Science or Separate Physics and Chemistry, at both Higher and Foundation level.
For A-Level students, I offer tutoring in Physics and Chemistry, including more challenging calculations, problem-solving, practical questions and exam technique.
Whether a student is struggling with the basics, looking to move up several grades or aiming for the highest grades, I adapt each lesson to their individual needs and make sure they are being appropriately challenged.
