About Joan
In my few years of tutoring, one thing I can confidently say is that none of my students are the same after each class because I make sure you are firmly grounded before moving on to the next topic. I also build a bond with my students so that they are free to express any misunderstandings during tutoring. I have testimonials from several of the students I have tutored. Before I can begin a class with a student, I need to understand the student's areas of strength and weakness. I strive to confirm that the student is proficient in his or her assigned area of strength, so that we may fully concentrate on the area of weakness. I use three teaching strategies that I refer to as the "VLA." Video, Live, Assessment, First, I create a video in which I explain everything in depth, followed by a live session in which we discuss and the student indicates their level of understanding. Finally, I give the student an assessment to ensure that the understood all I taught.
My lesson plan is evaluated in relation to the student's area of weakness. My approach to teaching, which employs the "VLA" method, distinguishes me as a tutor.
