About Caitlyn
I am an English Literature student at an established Russell Group University who has a passion to help others fulfil their own academic potential. I have previously received a 9/A* at GCSE level English Literature, and an A at A level studying English Literature and Language.
I am able to critically, culturally and contextually analyse all forms of texts from novels to plays and also poetry. Due to my degree I am very knowledgeable in this subject and hope to become a specialist after my prospects of doing a Masters.
I have also worked for the WJEC examination board as a Clerical Assistant. Therefore, I fully understand mark schemes and the way examiners mark both GCSE and A level exam papers.
I am a very friendly and patient person who would love to help anyone that finds any aspect of English Literature/Language challenging.

In terms of teaching methods I think it’s important to understand that different students can learn in very different ways. Therefore, I have no set methodology of teaching a student but instead I incorporate different elements of visual, verbal and aural styles of teaching to engage the individual. For instance, using a mix of flash cards, educational videos and textbooks. Also, using creative methods like the use of colour and artistic exercises can be beneficial to a student who may find the subject tedious. English Literature/Language is an amazingly interesting subject and I want to reflect this is the way it’s taught.
Once getting to know how the individual student enjoys learning, the lesson plans will be personally tailored to them.
In saying this, the specific teaching methods preferred by the student will then always be applied to past papers and timed examination preparation (all of these papers will be marked with full feedback). This will mentally and physically prepare the student for being in a high pressure environment, which can also be a very challenging aspect of GCSE and A level examinations for some students.
In regard to lesson structure itself, I have found it is increasingly beneficial to build the foundations of understanding critical reading and writing, spelling, grammar and linguistic techniques. Once these foundations have been established it makes any text alot easier to understand; no matter it’s content. Therefore, I will dedicate the first tutoring lessons to building the students confidence in these areas. However, if the student is already advanced in these areas then the tutoring will reflect their level of understanding.
Then once these basics are understood, we can apply these understandings to the specific texts/plays or poems that are being examined. Closely working through critical, cultural and contextual understandings of the texts. If all
of these areas are covered to a good level the student should always be able to achieve an advanced grade.
DISCLAIMER: I will supply all teaching equipment and resources so no student is disadvantaged.
For instance: all online resources will be accessed through my own technological devices and the student won’t be expected to bring any of these devices themselves, all resources will be printed off fully and I will also supply stationary if this can’t be supplied by the student.
Due to the restrictions enforced because of COVID-19 I will only be offering online tuition at this time but am hopeful to be giving face to face tutoring following future Government guidelines.
