About Byron
Hi all!
I am a highly experienced chemistry tutor, looking to tutor GCSE and A-level Chemistry. I have over 300 hours' experience, helping students to achieve top grades in both group- and 1-to-1 sessions.
I am currently studying a PhD at UCL on atomic-scale semiconductors for quantum computers. I have also consulted for Google, helping Gemini improve its educational capability in Biology and Chemistry.
I also have previous experience in educational technology (Edtech), which has had me developing multimedia resources for the GCSE and A-level chemistry curricula.
Having consulted closely with subject examiners to develop this educational content, I have a deep understanding of learners' main misconceptions, but also how to personalise the teaching so that it is individually tailored to the student.
My educational background is also strong, having achieved top grades in the field from top universities (Manchester and Imperial). Chemistry is the most under-appreciated science—and often the most poorly taught. I am eager to change what people think of chemistry, one student at a time.
Additionally, I have great experience preparing students for the Chemistry Olympiad, and for Undergraduate study in Chemistry.

Having taught, tutored, and indeed consulted closely with subject examiners to develop this educational content, I have a deep understanding of students' main misconceptions, and how to approach them in a way that is tailored to the student.
With every new student I aim to get a good grip of how you learn, and your level of understanding with a new subject. Every student is different.
I only maintain a rough formal structure for my lessons, just because I see them as an opportunity to address any misconceptions, wherever they may be. I may come up with a lesson plan for condensation polymerisation, but one question might sidetrack the lesson into limiting reagents. And that's the whole point!

When my daughter was really struggling with her GCSE Maths, Byron gave her exactly the support she needed - he was patient, knowledgeable and gave her the tools to find the solutions she needed. Her confidence and results are up, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Byron adapted his teaching style to what she needed, which makes him a tutor I would recommend, regardless of the specific areas they’re struggling with.
I really enjoyed my lessons with Byron. He has a wonderful way of explaining things that makes everything click. We worked through many past papers together, and his step-by-step method for tackling hard questions was incredibly helpful. He's also very kind, patient, and always well-prepared with great materials. I couldn't have asked for a better tutor!
Byron is an exceptional chemistry tutor who teaches at a pace tailored to your understanding, always making sure you’ve fully grasped each concept before moving on. He is highly flexible and patient, adapting every lesson to specific questions or topics you want to focus on and explaining even the most challenging material with clarity and ease. He consistently goes above and beyond to support your learning and build confidence, making every lesson both productive and enjoyable.
Byron was thorough and reliable and happy to recommend to any parent wanting to support their kids with tuition
