Hi, I’m Rod! I help students prepare strategically for IELTS, with a particular focus on achieving Band 7.0 or higher in Writing and Speaking.

I have 18 years of experience teaching English, including 15 years specializing in international exams, particularly IELTS. My approach combines practical exam strategies with an in-depth understanding of language, assessment and how IELTS works.
Why choose my classes?
• Proven English proficiency: My own IELTS results average Band 8.5 (C2), including Band 9s!
• Academic expertise: I hold a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of New South Wales, the best in Australia and ranked 19th in the world, where I also taught Linguistics and Academic Writing for several years.
• Specialist IELTS experience: I am a former IELTS instructor at International House (Sydney).
• Official training: I have received professional training and certification from IDP (Australia), and some of my research has been published by IELTS.
• First-hand exam experience: I have sat IELTS 16 times as part of my certification requirements, giving me extensive first-hand experience with the test and its assessment criteria.
As a linguist and experienced teacher, I go beyond memorizing templates or learning generic tips. I help you understand what examiners are looking for, identify the specific issues holding you back, and develop the skills and strategies you need to work towards your target score.
What can you expect from my classes?
• Personalized lessons based on your current level and target score.
• Detailed feedback and practical strategies, particularly for Writing and Speaking.
• Materials tailored to your needs, with a focus on the skills you need to improve.
• Online lessons via Zoom, Google Meet or another platform that suits you.
Rates and bookings
My standard rate is AUD $75 per hour, with discounted rates available for lesson packages.
Before we begin, I’d love to hear about your current IELTS experience, your target score, and the challenges you have been facing. This will help me tailor our lessons to your specific needs. You can also learn more about my academic background, professional experience and recommendations from former students through LinkedIn: Rodrigo Arellano

If you’re ready to take your IELTS preparation to the next level, feel free to get in touch.
I look forward to hearing from you!
