About Lucila
Sitting at a piano bench in a small practice room at Eastman School of Music, I realized technical drills were only the starting point. I have taught piano for 13 years, focusing on sight playing, sight reading, jazz improvisation, posture, hand position, scales, arpeggios, rhythm, timing, and ear training. My students range from nervous beginners to grade exam candidates.
Working with this variety of students requires a practical, no-nonsense approach to pedagogy. I keep things straightforward while ensuring we cover the necessary fundamentals for your progress. You might consider reaching out to schedule a time for us to play.

Setting the metronome to a steady click at the start of our time together helps establish a clear sense of structure before we play a single note. My 13 years of experience allow me to identify exact physical adjustments for posture or rhythm errors immediately.
I guide beginners and advanced students through repertoire that forces them to engage with sight reading and ear training consistently. We break down complex jazz improvisation concepts into small, manageable patterns that fit under your fingers.
Developing your ability to hear intervals while reading sheet music creates a solid musical foundation. I treat every session as a workspace for solving technical puzzles through repetition and analysis.
My 7.0 standard ensures that you maintain high accuracy while exploring different musical styles. You can expect a direct evaluation of your performance during our time at the keys. I provide a calm environment where the work remains the primary focus.
