About Marissa

Hello! My name is Marissa, and I am passionate about language, literature, creative writing, poetry, and public speaking. I believe that words have the power to inspire, connect people, and help us express our thoughts and feelings.

My goal as a tutor is to create a friendly, supportive, and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring their creativity, and developing their skills. I take a patient and understanding approach, adapting lessons to each student's individual needs and learning pace.

Whether you want to improve your grammar and vocabulary, explore the meaning of literature, write your own stories and poems, or become more confident when speaking in front of others, I aim to make every lesson engaging, practical, and enjoyable.

During our lessons, you can expect clear explanations, helpful examples, guided practice, creative activities, and constructive feedback to help you recognise your progress and continue improving.

I welcome beginner and school-level learners who want to strengthen their language skills, develop their creativity, or build confidence in communication. I believe that every student has the potential to grow, and I want to help you discover your abilities and find your own voice.

I look forward to creating a positive learning experience with you, where curiosity is encouraged, creativity is celebrated, and every step forward matters!

My Approach to Private Tutoring

I believe that language is more than just words — it is a way to express ourselves, share ideas, tell stories, and connect with others. My goal is to help students develop their language skills, creativity, confidence, and communication abilities in a supportive and enjoyable learning environment.

My Teaching Methodology

My teaching approach is patient, creative, and student-focused. I encourage students to explore their ideas, think independently, express themselves freely, and develop their own unique voices. I aim to make learning interesting through practical activities, examples, discussions, writing exercises, and constructive feedback.

What makes my approach special is my focus on both creativity and confidence. Whether a student is writing a poem, exploring a piece of literature, improving their language skills, or preparing to speak in front of an audience, I want them to feel encouraged to learn and grow.

Subjects I Offer

- **Language:** Grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, spelling, and written communication.
- **Literature:** Exploring stories, characters, themes, symbolism, and the meaning behind written works.
- **Creative Writing:** Developing story ideas, creating characters, building plots, and improving writing skills.
- **Poetry:** Exploring poetic techniques, understanding poems, and learning to write original poetry.
- **Public Speaking:** Building confidence, improving pronunciation and delivery, organising speeches, and learning to communicate ideas clearly.

Languages

I can offer tutoring in English and Afrikaans, depending on the student's needs and the topic being taught.

What to Expect From a Lesson

Each lesson is designed around the student's learning needs and goals. We may begin by reviewing a topic or identifying an area for improvement, followed by clear explanations, guided practice, creative activities, and constructive feedback. Lessons can include reading, writing, analysing literature, creating poetry, or practising speeches.

I aim to make every lesson interactive, encouraging, and productive, helping students gradually strengthen their skills and confidence.

Who Are My Lessons For?

My lessons are aimed at beginner and school-level learners who want to improve their language abilities, explore literature, develop their creative writing, understand poetry, or become more confident public speakers.

Whether a student needs help with the basics or simply wants to develop their creativity and communication skills, my goal is to support their progress at a pace that works for them.
