About Martha
I am at university studying French Studies with Chinese. I achieved a first in my first year and I am looking forward to continuing developing my skills. I earned an A in my English Literature A-level, and an A* in my EPQ, so I have good experience when it comes to writing academically. Although I am not studying English Literature at university, I continue to enjoy reading novels and poetry. Throughout my university coursework I have had to continue writing longer dissertations, meaning that essay writing is something with which I am familiar. I have experience teaching, as I spent my year abroad teaching English in France, and for several years have tutored on a voluntary basis, helping younger students to develop their literacy skills.

I would love to tutor anyone going through GCSEs, or any student wanting some extra practice or guidance. English literature exams and coursework are heavily essay based, so I would want to focus on the effective planning and writing of essays, especially under timed conditions. Nevertheless, I would ensure to structure my classes around my student's needs, whether this be a specific piece of homework, or working on a specific skill. I think that teaching of English literature can be variable, and the techniques that each student wants to use can also vary massively. As a consequence, teaching of English Literature often becomes over complicated, and I think this can put a lot of people off. However, I think that being able to work one on one with a student will mean that I can help to simplify the skills needed to succeed in English Literature.
