About Hisae

Hi! My name is Hisae, and I am a native Japanese speaker currently living in Los Angels.

I hold a Associate Degree in Psychology and Language from Citrus College, where I developed a strong foundation in both the Japanese language and cultural studies.

I have valuable experience teaching Japanese as a professor's assistant during my college years, where I supported students in their language studies through tutoring and facilitating classroom discussions. This role helped me develop effective teaching strategies and a deeper understanding of student needs.

In addition to my academic experience, I actively participate in language exchange meetups, where I teach Japanese to individuals looking to improve their language skills. These meetups provide a dynamic environment for practicing conversational Japanese and cultural exchange, allowing me to connect with learners from diverse backgrounds.

I believe that learning a language should be an enjoyable and engaging experience. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable practicing and making mistakes.

I'm excited to help you on your journey to learning Japanese, and I look forward to sharing my knowledge and passion with you!

About the lesson

I use a communicative approach to language learning, focusing on real-life conversations and practical usage. My methods include:

・Interactive Activities: Engaging students with role-playing, dialogues, and games to build confidence in speaking.
・Cultural Context: Integrating aspects of Japanese culture, history, and etiquette to enhance language comprehension and appreciation.
・Multimedia Resources: Utilizing music and articles to make lessons dynamic and relatable.
・Personalized Learning: Tailoring lessons to each student’s interests and learning goals, whether for travel, business, or academic purposes.

A typical lesson may include:

・Warm-Up (5-10 minutes): Short conversation or review of previous material.
・New Content (15-20 minutes): Introduction of new vocabulary, grammar, or cultural concepts.
・Practice (20-25 minutes): Interactive exercises, such as dialogues or role-playing scenarios.
・Feedback (5-10 minutes): Reviewing performance and addressing challenges.
・Wrap-Up (5 minutes): Summary of key points and assignment of practice material for the next lesson.

・Native Speaker: As a native Japanese speaker, I provide authentic pronunciation and cultural nuances that enhance learning.
・Cultural Insight: My background allows me to share unique cultural insights that enrich the language learning experience.
・Flexible Scheduling: I offer lessons at various times to accommodate different schedules, including evenings and weekends.
・Supportive Environment: I create a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere where students feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes.

My lessons are suitable for:

・Beginners to Advanced Learners: Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to refine your skills.
・Students of All Ages: From children to adults, I adapt my teaching style to fit the age and learning preferences of each student.
・Specific Needs: These lessons cater to various goals, including travel, business Japanese, academic study, or casual conversation.
