About Ms Joy
Here’s some background on me: I have been teaching for 19 years, & have had the privilege of working with a wide range of learners, from PreK-12th graders-adult learners. As well as working in special education as an assistant for a few years, prior to being a classroom teacher, I was also a children’s librarian. My specialty areas include ELA/Writing, Technology, and Reading Intervention. I have taught in-person in Tennessee, and have also taught online in Delaware, Massachusetts, & Tennessee. I hold a 402 K-8 Professional Teaching degree as well as a Master's in Education for Curriculum & Instruction. I am passionate about education & am always looking for new & effective teaching strategies to help my learners succeed. In addition, I utilize scaffolding, modeling, remediation & enrichment opportunities to ensure that online learning is effective for all of my diverse learning styles.

Hi, my name is Ms. Joy. I am excited to start this learning journey with you! As far as virtual teaching/tutoring goes: When it comes to making virtual learning fun & engaging, I like to get to know my students!! Their interests are important, & it helps keep them motivated & excited to learn. I also make sure to incorporate interactive elements into my lessons whenever possible, making learning enjoyable and effective. I utilize IXL for the initial diagnostic placement in the desired subject. This will give us recommended skills for your child to work on at the level they need. I love this, because it meets them where they are! Also, I use education.com, & will happily share the login for Brainzy with you for your child to use at home anytime while you are tutoring with me. Brainzy includes Reading, Writing, Grammar, Math & Typing! It’s a wonderful resource. We’ll also be using other platforms like Kahoot+, ReadWorks, Word Wall & Blooket for engagement and learning activities, as well as IXL.
