About Laura
My Story
I grew up in a small country in Eastern Europe. As a child, I dreamed big about my future. I wanted more than what my surroundings could offer me and was already thinking deeply about what I wanted my life to look like. Back then fashion was a big part of my childhood as my mum worked as a tailor. I imagined myself as a businesswoman in the fashion industry, and I wanted to get the best education I could possibly get in this. The possible options in my country were either academic degree in general business management or professional degree in fashion design. Neither felt right, and browsing thought the internet, I discovered that fashion and business could be combined at university level, including at some of the best universities in the world. It felt exciting to be able to study there and at the same time it felt impossible.
I decided to turn it into a goal. I had one specific dream course at UAL, LCF. Over the next two years, I took small steps towards it. I didn’t know a single person who studied abroad. When I started applying, I found a free consultancy service funded by UK universities in my country. I remember having to choose my five university options. I hesitated to put my dream course at LCF on the list and wanted to fill the form with more realistic options. The consultant told me to put the LCF as my first choice and not overthink it. I simply said yes. I put my dream first and chose four options I considered realistic.
It all worked out! I received an offer from one of the top fashion schools in the world to study exactly the subject I had wanted. Looking back, I think two things made this possible: being willing to dream bigger than what my surroundings made me believe was possible, and having someone who encouraged me to choose the course I truly wanted, but maybe wasn’t confident in my ability to get there. It showed me the power of both vision and guidance. Sometimes dreaming beyond your current reality can change your life, and sometimes the right guidance can turn a dream into reality.
Moving to London and being an international student, I had to go out of my comfort zone a lot! Also, studying Fashion at a deep university level changed my understanding of the industry and, ultimately, of what I wanted. At fifteen, I thought opening a fashion store in my city would be my biggest dream. But in London my goals and vision became broader, and I eventually realised that building a fashion company was no longer what I wanted to pursue. My vision had changed. After graduation, I also started working in marketing as a freelancer, building my own freelance services and providing social media marketing for small businesses in the UK.
I have always loved going deeper into how we can improve ourselves and our lives. I have also worked with life coaches myself, which has made me even more interested in coaching. At the moment, my main goals in this area are becoming an ICF-certified coach and pursuing an academic degree in behavioural science.
Here, on Superprof, my goal is to help any of you who are students, recent graduates and young individuals to transform your lives, perhaps to understand what you want to study or pursue as a career, create a step by step plan, and have accountability throughout the process. I truly believe that every person should have the opportunity to reach their full potential, see what they are capable of, and have the support to move towards it. I believe that our potential is often a lot bigger than we think.
