About Jamie
I am a Level 5 qualified Specialist Dyslexia and Literacy Teacher with over four years of experience supporting primary-aged children across specialist and mainstream educational settings.
I currently work at Emerson House, a specialist setting for children with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties, alongside providing one-to-one support within independent prep schools (Kew Green Preparatory School and St James Preparatory School). I also work privately with primary-aged pupils, supporting them across literacy, English and Maths.
My specialist areas include dyslexia, reading, spelling, writing and comprehension, as well as supporting children who may lack confidence or find it difficult to work independently. I also provide targeted Maths support and 11+ preparation where appropriate.
I believe children make the best progress when they feel understood, confident and comfortable in their learning. I take time to build a positive relationship with each pupil and adapt my teaching to the way they learn best. My lessons are encouraging and engaging, with plenty of patience, energy and humour.
My aim is to help children make meaningful academic progress while developing the confidence, strategies and independence they can carry back into the classroom.

Every child has a different learning profile, so I believe effective support should begin with understanding exactly where a pupil’s strengths and difficulties lie.
I start by getting to know the pupil, discussing any concerns with parents and assessing their current skills to identify the specific areas that require support. This allows me to establish clear targets and plan lessons around the individual child, rather than using a one-size-fits-all programme. I continue to monitor progress so that teaching can be adapted as their needs develop.
A key part of my specialist teaching is the use of a structured, multisensory approach. Children with dyslexia and other literacy difficulties often benefit from learning that engages several senses together, so I incorporate visual, auditory and practical activities wherever appropriate. This helps make learning more accessible, memorable and engaging, while giving pupils different ways to understand and retain new skills.
Depending on the pupil’s individual needs, sessions can target reading, spelling, phonics, comprehension, writing, handwriting and vocabulary, alongside personalised support in English, Maths, study skills and 11+ preparation.
Skills are broken down into manageable steps, explicitly taught and revisited until the pupil develops confidence and a secure understanding. As progress is made, I adapt the level of support and encourage pupils to apply strategies more independently.
My aim is not simply to help a child complete their current schoolwork, but to identify why they are finding something difficult, provide the right targeted support and equip them with strategies they can use independently in the classroom and beyond.

I have worked with Jamie for two and a half years at a specialist learning centre for children with specific learning difficulties. Jamie is an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher, who is dedicated to promoting learners' self-esteem and literacy skills. I have known Jamie for several years and can confidently recommend him as an English tutor. He is friendly, professional, and always takes the time to explain things clearly and patiently. He is reliable, approachable, and genuinely committed to helping others improve. I would highly recommend Jamie to anyone looking for an English tutor.
Jamie supported my dyslexic daughter as an in-class one-to-one throughout Year 6. Thanks to his wonderful support and teaching she was able to not only remain in, but also thrive at her mainstream school. Also, thanks to his teaching, she gained offers at all the senior schools she applied to. Jamie quickly gained and held her trust and confidence, and was exceptionally diligent is his work with her. Neither my daughter nor I could be happier or more grateful for all the incredible work Jamie put in. I recommend him highly and without reservation.

I offer a free 30-minute introductory meeting before the first lesson. This gives me the opportunity to learn more about your child, discuss any areas of concern and understand the support they may need. It also gives parents the opportunity to ask any questions before committing to regular tuition.
For pupils beginning regular tuition, I use the initial sessions to assess their strengths and areas for development. This allows me to establish clear targets and create an individualised programme of support, which is reviewed and adapted as the pupil progresses.
