About Jay Marc
I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Statistics, and I've spent the time since applying that training outside a classroom. I interned as a Data Analyst with a government agency, cleaning large datasets and building dashboards used for official reporting. I now work as a freelance certified statistician, reviewing and certifying methodology for undergraduate thesis research. During college, I coached a team for the Philippine Statistics Quiz, and we placed at the regional level two years running. I teach the way I was trained: with precision, and a clear standard for what "correct" means.

Teaching method and techniques:
I build lessons around what's giving a student trouble, not a fixed syllabus. Statistics means reading patterns, not memorizing formulas, so I work through real datasets when I can instead of staying theoretical. Students attempt problems first. I step in only where the logic breaks down. Some need diagrams. Others need every step written out. I switch depending on what gets the concept to click.
A typical lesson plan:
Each session opens with a quick check on what tripped up the student last time. I introduce the concept with a short example, built from real data when possible, then we work through two or three practice problems together. As the student gets comfortable, I step back and let them lead. I close with a recap and a short set of practice problems, picked around wherever they're still hesitant.
What sets me apart:
During college, I coached students for the Philippine Statistics Quiz. Our team placed at the regional level two years running. Coaching for competition meant explaining statistics fast and clear, under real pressure, where hesitation costs points. That shaped how I teach now. I've also cleaned and analyzed real government data in a professional setting, and I freelance as a certified statistician, reviewing methodology for undergraduate thesis students. I show where these concepts get used, not just how to pass an exam.
Who the lessons are for:
I work with high school and college students taking introductory to intermediate statistics. I also work with undergraduate students on thesis methodology: sampling design, hypothesis testing, and data analysis using tools like SQL, JASP, or Power BI. And I coach students preparing for statistics competitions or board exams who need focused, high-pressure practice.
