About Carlos
I am a former freelance jazz drummer that is pursing an undergraduate degree in computer science at Portland State University after taking four years off to perform and consider a professional music path. After deciding to begin my journey with higher education, I fell back in love with math through calculus. I still teach music lessons and I think it feels great to help someone else discover for themselves theoretical concepts whether it be in music, mathematics or anything else. I like to spend my free time learning the saxophone. It very challenging, yet, very rewarding at the same time. I have been a huge fan of jazz music since I was a student in middle school. John Coltrane is my favorite musician.

I have been teaching drum lessons for about 7 years to people from the elementary to high school age range. This has taught me a lot about how to modify my way of explaining things to make the content more consumable for each person. Teaching and working full-time as a cashier has brought me organizational and communication skills as a result.
I have straight A's through calculus 3 university level coursework.
