About Anna
Hi, I'm Anna! I am a recent graduate of Amherst College with a bachelor's degree in History and Russian. Math was always one of the most difficult subjects for me growing up. When I understood the concepts I found it very rewarding; when I didn't understand I became frustrated. Through high school and during my time at community college, I have gained an appreciation for math that has inspired me to help others feel comfortable with this sometimes challenging subject.
I have four years of experience tutoring. My first position was as a one-on-one peer tutor at the community college I attended, where I became certified as a Level 1 tutor. At community college, I tutored in a variety of subjects including math, science, and English. Recently I have begun tutoring virtually due to the pandemic.

My favorite things about tutoring are encouraging students to produce their best work and helping them understand difficult concepts so they can experience their own reward from their education. I am currently offering tutoring in elementary mathematics, pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry.
My approach to tutoring is to meet the student at their own level of learning. I understand that not every student learns in the same way. Some students are visual learners, while others grasp information quickly through auditory or textual explanations. I learned math in grade school using a visual curriculum that worked well for me. I am open to all learning styles and want to work with students to identify the one that works best for them. I believe that there are always at least two different ways to explain a math problem, and very often many more! I am always up for the challenge of explaining math concepts in new ways that make the most sense to the student.
