Mathematics Bachelor of Science, Teaching ANY Math From K Through Dual Enrollment

Math never came easily to me, my dyslexia only made it worse. I always avoided it whenever I could and when I had to do it, I hated it because I felt like I could never understand what was going on. Being a “math person” was something I couldn’t see myself becoming, I couldn’t even see myself enjoying or understanding the subject. Agnieszka was my math tutor in 9th grade, I was learning geometry and barely getting by with a C. She went straight to work with me to identify my struggles in math. We would go over the lesson of that day and work on the homework together, if there where some weak points in my work we would go over it. Agnieszka dedicated so much of her time to make sure everything was clear and understood and encouraged me to ask questions and voice my confusion so she could explain the subject in a different way. She taught me good study habits and active learning instead of passive. The study habits she taught me along with the work she put in raised my low C to a high B in geometry. With understanding math, the homework didn’t feel like a punishment; most importantly, I could finally understand what was going on in class. Agnieszka’s tutoring is long term, the habits she taught me helped me through Algebra 2 and Pre Calculus with B’s. I might not be a “ math person” but I can confidently say that I understand it, and more often then not, I do find myself enjoying it.
