About Poppy
Hi! I'm Poppy, and I have recently graduated from the University of Aberdeen with a First Class Honours in MA Applied Mathematics. In secondary school, I achieved an A in Advanced Higher Maths, and previously I achieved six A's and one B at Higher level. I have a strong background in maths and physics and love helping students build confidence in (and hopefully learn to love) these subjects.
I have completed work experience in the Maths department of my school and helped to organise several maths-related events for younger students to help with their transition to secondary school.
I tutor students from National 5 to university level, and I specialise in making tricky concepts easier to understand, especially in topics like calculus, algebra, and exam problem-solving techniques.
My approach is friendly and supportive. I adapt my lessons to suit each student’s learning style and pace, and I focus on developing a solid understanding that lasts beyond the exam.

My approach for each student would change from person to person as everyone has different learning styles but my overall aim is to help students at SQA National 5/Higher level to prepare for exam style questions by teaching them to fully understand each topic.
In my experience of studying, I found it useful to start out using notes to answer a question, and then later re-do that question without notes to see what parts I found difficult and that I should work on.
I want to ensure that each lesson is based around the student's individual needs and the topics that they feel need the most work.
As a tutor, I am patient and always want to find new methods of learning/teaching that make each lesson enjoyable for the student.
