About Gilberto
I am a lover of languages and language learning with over 30 years of tutoring experience with ages 8 to 88 and 20 years of classroom experience teaching Spanish and 4 years teaching Russian for adolescents. National Board Certified in World Languages for Adolescents and Adults. A graduate of the University of Texas in the Spanish Language with a Minor in the Russian Language with some French.
My students can boast of all levels of language proficiency and fluency after working with me.
We begin where you are and follow what some refer to as the natural method to acquire the language to whatever level you are willing to work toward.
As a simultaneous bilingual in Spanish and English, I have ample experience facing the challenges of learning new languages.
I also provide tutoring in English Language Arts and Social Studies/History for Middle School and High School students.
I look forward to helping you on your journey toward academic and linguistic success!

Maestro Porter is extremely knowledge and patient. I enjoyed his class very much.
I am taking beginner Spanish class with Maestro Porter. In the first class, he evaluated my Spanish level, and made concrete learning plans for me. He focused on improving my Spanish pronunciations. We started with different sounds, and he was able to not only identify my mistakes and improvements very well, but also come up with useful exercises for me to practice. He is knowledgeable, funny and enthusiastic about languages. I am looking forward to learning more from him.He was very flexible with the teaching, it was very fluid and natural. I can use duolingo all day long, but I feel like making it a conversation was very, very helpful. He explained not only the origin of the words, but the culture behind the language and demonstrated how languages vary. I would love to be able to continue forward with him.
