About Ilian

I was born and raised in Iran and grew up speaking Persian as my first language. Moved to the U.S. at 12 but always kept in touch with my heritage/culture; so much so that only 6 years later I went back to marry into a Kurdish family.

So while I don't hold a formal teaching certification, I've spent years informally helping friends and family members learn Persian, and I bring patience and clear explanations to every session. I'm also fluent in English and can speak Sorani (Ardalani dialect) Kurdish conversationally, which also helps me relate to learners coming from different linguistic backgrounds and explain concepts in whichever language makes the most sense to you.

I take tutoring seriously and always come prepared, and I'm committed to making sure you feel comfortable progressing at your own pace.

About the lesson

As a native Persian speaker myself, I focus on practical, conversational fluency rather than rigid textbook drills.

Lessons typically start with a...
- quick review of vocabulary or grammar from last time
- move into conversation practice tailored to real-life situations
- end with new material to build on.

I'm especially attentive to pronunciation and natural phrasing, since that's often what heritage learners and beginners struggle with most. Lessons can be conducted in Persian or English depending on your comfort level. Whether you're reconnecting with your roots or starting from scratch, I try to adapt the pace and content to fit your goals.

All lesson materials are provided at no extra cost, no need to purchase textbooks or workbooks. The 5-hour package ($75) and 10-hour package ($100) are great options if you're committed to making real progress. In-person lessons in the Chicago area are available for an additional $5 travel fee. First lesson is free; no commitment needed.

I keep my rates low because I genuinely love teaching people any knowledge I hold and sharing culture through language is beautiful. This isn't about income for me, it's more about connection. Which is why the package discounts exist so that students who are serious about learning can commit without it being a financial burden. I'm also open to payment plans.
