About Michael
I have more than a year’s experience tutoring, teaching a total of over 200 lessons across a mixture of online and in-person sessions. My students achieved a 100% GCSE pass rate in academic year 2023/2024, starting from a range of abilities in maths. I teach on evenings and weekends alongside my full-time day job.
I have a deep and keen interest in all things mathematical and philosophical, taking my four A-levels in maths, further maths, physics and philosophy into an MMathPhil at the University of Oxford. I love to inspire interest in these subjects which have been my passion for so long. I also understand that for many students, maths is a stepping stone to other quantitative disciplines and I am committed to helping you achieve success in your exams as a gateway to your next steps.
I have a friendly, personable demeanour and I see lessons as a two-way street; expect me to bring complete focus and thorough preparation to every lesson.
If this sounds interesting to you, I would love to hear from you!

I prefer lessons to be interactive discussions where we share thoughts and intuitions about the material. The summer holidays is a great time for year 11s to think about their next steps going into sixth form, and for first year sixth-formers to think about university.
With my full-time job to balance, I teach on weekday evenings and weekends, with more flexility on weekends.
I am used to tutorial-style teaching from my experiences at Oxford and thrive in a one- or two-to-one teaching environment.
I can tutor GCSE-aged students through to A-level, and undergraduate level logic. I have taught both GCSE maths and A-level maths throughout the school year, including exam season. I also have experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE maths (0580).

Perfect! very helpful, goes through topics clearly and makes the lessons easy to understand
- Ella has showed up to her lessons with enthusiasm and has shown a great ability to catch herself when answering, steering her thoughts down the correct line of reasoning on her own. I look forward to our lessons and I am sure she will continue the excellent progress I have already observed.Michael's response :
Perfect! My Son has always struggled with maths and needs a boost to help secure his maths GCSE. Michael came prepared for their lesson together and worked with my Son to help determine the areas he struggles with the most. My Son has ADHD so it isn’t always easy to get him to focus on a subject he finds difficult. However, he worked well with Michael and is happy to continue their lessons together.
- Becky's son was a pleasure to work with and I was so impressed with the positive attitude that he came into the lesson with. Even after just one hour I felt an improvement in his confidence and self-talk, and I look forward to tracking his progress as he approaches his maths GCSE!Michael's response :
Perfect! Really helpful at showing me how to apply the maths to the questions
- Danielle did brilliantly. She shows great insight identifying her strengths and her areas for development in maths and persevered with tricky material right from lesson one.Michael's response :
