About Alex

Hello! My name is Alex, and I’m passionate about helping students succeed in math. I’m currently a freshman at Pitzer College, studying mathematics with a strong foundation in tutoring, as I’ve been helping students excel in math since high school. I also hold a certification in finance, which gives me a well-rounded understanding of numbers and their real-world applications. Beyond academics, I love programming, playing music, and reading—all of which fuel my curiosity and love for learning. I believe that math is not just about numbers but about problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity. My goal is to make math approachable and even enjoyable for my students.

As a tutor, I approach teaching with a focus on understanding through examples, providing a solid foundation upon which theoretical concepts can be built. My teaching method emphasizes clarity and relatability, ensuring students grasp the underlying principles of math through practical applications.

Teaching Method and Techniques
I prioritize example-based learning, using concrete problems to introduce concepts before diving into the theoretical framework. This approach allows students to see the immediate application of what they're learning, making the transition to abstract ideas smoother. My sessions are interactive, encouraging questions and fostering a safe space for trial and error.

A Typical Lesson Plan
Review Concepts: Start with a recap of the material taught in class, identifying areas of difficulty.
Examples and Practice: Work through example problems to clarify concepts, followed by guided practice to solidify understanding.
Chunk Information: Break down lessons into smaller, manageable parts to prevent overwhelm.
Real-World Connections: Relate topics to practical, real-life scenarios to enhance engagement and comprehension.
Confidence Building: Begin with simpler problems to ensure early successes, gradually progressing to more complex challenges.
What Sets Me Apart
What makes me unique as a tutor is my deep engagement with academia. As a math major at Pitzer College, I bring a fresh perspective and an empathetic understanding of the struggles students face. My experiences as both a student and a tutor enable me to connect with learners on their level and offer personalized strategies for success.

Target Audience
I am equipped to teach all levels of math, with particular expertise in high school mathematics and calculus. Additionally, I provide support for advanced topics such as differential equations, linear algebra, and discrete mathematics. Whether you're tackling fundamental concepts or delving into complex theories, I tailor lessons to meet your specific needs and goals.
