My reading lessons incorporate the UFLI Foundations approach to provide students with explicit, systematic, and evidence-based phonics instruction. Lessons are designed for Kindergarten through 5th grade students who need additional support developing strong foundational reading skills.
Using the UFLI lesson sequence as a framework, students receive direct instruction and guided practice in the skills they need to become accurate, automatic, and confident readers.
What Lessons May Include
Phonemic Awareness – Students practice identifying, blending, segmenting, and manipulating sounds in words.
Letter-Sound Relationships – Students learn and reinforce consistent connections between letters and sounds.
Blending & Word Reading – Students practice blending sounds together to read words accurately.
Phonics Patterns – Instruction progresses systematically through increasingly complex phonics concepts.
Word Building & Encoding – Students practice spelling and writing words using the sound-spelling patterns they have learned.
High-Frequency Words – Students receive explicit instruction and repeated practice with commonly used words.
Decodable Text – Students apply newly learned phonics skills by reading texts that align with the patterns they have been taught.
Fluency Practice – Repeated reading and guided practice help students develop accuracy, automaticity, and expression.
Review & Skill Reinforcement – Previously taught concepts are intentionally reviewed to strengthen retention and mastery.
