Most important thing is to understand the concepts and get them cleared in the beginning. This helps to indulge further in the interested subject.
Speaking of Biology, it is very important to understand the basic definitions and concepts rather than cramming which is very stressful. A reminded for biology students is to learn everything and cover every corner of the book. There is no shortcut for this.
Make sure you are confident in your subject and clear your questions/confusion.
