About Zheng
I'm a PhD major in chemistry, just graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology in Dec. 2018. I have moved to Boston now, and am actively looking for a local part-time tutor work. During my study in IIT I have done 2 in-campus jobs as a student tutor and a teaching assistant, respectively, for more than 3 years. As a student tutor, my responsibility was to answer questions from undergraduate students and to give suggestions about their courses. As a teaching assistant, my responsibility is to grade homework and exams. I believe I have accumulated good experience about how to deal with the difficulties undergrads are usually faced with during their course studies, and how to communicate with them efficiently.

Usually I approach each topic by 3 steps: first, listen to student concerns. I believe the key is to get to know their fundamental knowledge, course learning progress and feelings toward the course. Chemistry is a subject with multiple sections where strong interaction connects them together. That is why it is so important for the tutor to listen to students and understand the situation comprehensively. Second, show them how to solve the specific problem, and give suggestions about where they need to pay more attention to according to their drawbacks. Furthermore, give them similar or deeper problems and see how they solve them. In this way I can tell they really understand what they have just learned.
