About Yuriy
I’m a materials scientist and sustainability leader with a PhD in Materials Science & Engineering and 10+ years of experience developing and scaling technologies for global consumer and chemical companies. Today, I work as Sustainable Materials Lead at Kenvue, partnering with R&D, procurement, and ESG teams to decarbonize product portfolios, accelerate circular and bio-based materials, and embed green chemistry into innovation pipelines. Previously, I held technical and leadership roles at Kimberly-Clark, Novomer, Momentive, working across superabsorbent polymers, porous polyolefins, specialty materials, and large-scale transformation projects. My technical background is grounded in research: I’ve authored peer-reviewed publications on nanoscale polymer films, functional nanocomposites, plasmonic structures, and responsive materials in journals such as ACS Nano, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Soft Matter, Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, Plasmonics, Polymer Chemistry, and Polymer International, as well as a PhD dissertation on nanoscale polymer films grafted to metal surfaces. In industry, I’ve translated that science into innovation, co-inventing multiple patents on nanoporous superabsorbent particles, porous polyolefin materials, tunable surface-modified fibrous substrates, and bio-based elastomer gels for absorbent and personal care products. My expertise sits at the intersection of polymer/materials science, product development, IP, and sustainability—from lab-scale experimentation and publications to patents, supplier engagement, LCA, and digital tools for data-driven decision-making. I’m passionate about making complex science practical and about mentoring students and early-career professionals in chemistry, materials, and sustainability.

Teaching method and techniques:
I focus on building real understanding, not memorization. I break complex chemistry concepts into clear, logical steps and constantly link them to real-life examples from industry (products, materials, everyday reactions). I use plenty of worked examples, visual explanations, and “why this matters” discussion so students see the bigger picture.
A typical lesson:
Each lesson starts with a quick check-in on schoolwork and recent topics, followed by a short review of any weak spots. We then tackle 1–2 key concepts with guided examples, moving to practice problems that match the student’s actual homework, quizzes, or exams. We finish with a brief summary and a simple plan of what to review before the next session.
