About Ashley
Hi! My name is Ashley, and I am working on a PhD at the University of Michigan. I have years of experience teaching, tutoring, and mentoring students of many different ages, from young children to undergraduate researchers. Before beginning graduate school, I mentored high school and undergraduate students in a behavioral neurogenetics lab, helping them develop the skills and confidence to work more independently. I have also tutored three students in algebra/college algebra, worked as an educator at a science museum, led robotics summer camps for students ages 10–12, and I spent a year teaching English in China to children ages 3–8. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and adaptable. I am available for: middle school, high school, or early undergraduate tutoring (ex: classes up through intro physics, general chemistry, pre-calculus, basic statistics)

Writing things down is one of the most important parts of learning. It helps you to organize your thoughts, moves information from short-term to long-term memory, and it reveals what concepts you are still uncertain about. My approach includes showing an outline of how to set up a problem, and then allowing the student to try problems on their own. Human brains are amazing at recognizing patterns, and my goal is to help students find the patterns to how specific problems should be approached.
