About Alexis
I am currently pursuing a PhD in Mathematics Education at North Carolina State University after earning my MS in Pure Mathematics. Throughout my academic career, I have developed a strong foundation in mathematics while also learning how to communicate complex ideas in a way that is clear and approachable.
Over the past five years, I have worked with students from middle school through college, tutoring subjects ranging from pre-algebra and algebra to calculus, linear algebra, and proof-based mathematics. Working with students at different levels has taught me the importance of patience, encouragement, and adapting to each student's individual needs.
I understand that asking for help in math can feel intimidating, and I strive to create a supportive, judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades but also to build their confidence and independence so they feel prepared to tackle future challenges on their own.

I have been tutoring math courses for the last 5 years. I majority taught undergraduate students, but have also taught middle and high schoolers. Every student is different, but generally we start with whatever coursework that student is currently struggling with, and we back track to the basics if necessary. I try to have the students first lead me through how they think each problem is meant to be solved instead of just immediately jumping into solutions. This allows me to see how a student thinks and lets me decide the best explanation to use to correct any mistakes. Again, every one learns and processes information different so I try to have a variety of explanations, tools, and tricks to help students learn. My goal is to try and not only teach math, but help students learn to enjoy it as well.
