About Irene
MUSIC TUTOR
My name is Irene Pujol, I am 24 and I have just completed my MA in Music Therapy at Guildhall in London. My principal study there has been singing and my second study is piano. I am passionate about music in a lot of different genres, from early music to jazz.
I have taken lessons of singing and piano from diverse teachers in jazz and classical techniques in Barcelona, Paris and London. My last teachers at Guildhall have been Margaret Humphrey (Voice) and Laura Roberts (Piano).
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have been a private tutor in the past in Barcelona and in Paris. I have a lot of experience with children and I have a DBS check. During my Music Therapy training I have had a lot of experience of introducing people to music and this has given me a broad background in many different age groups ranging from 5-6 year olds to adolescents, adults and elderly people.
APPROACH TO MUSIC TUITION
My approach to music tuition is very organic and always responding to the pupil's needs and curiosity. I believe that music should never be force into someone and that music learning should always come from the deep joy of music making rather than a simple repetition of passages. Therefore, my lessons involve various different learning methods depending on the strengths and the needs of each pupil. With little children I introduce playful techniques and games to support the learning process and make it more accessible to their age.
I also specialise in teaching pupils with special needs such as learning difficulties or autism. My background as a music therapist and my clinical experience with these client groups have provided me with a specific professional approach to teaching music in that context.
I can also teach Catalan and Spanish language, in which I have a proficient level having published, corrected and translated articles in those languages.
