About Isla

I am a piano tutor with 10 years of experience and a B.Mus in Piano Performance along with an M.Mus in Music Education. I specialize in helping students develop technical mastery, musical expression, and ensemble skills. I have worked with learners of all ages and skill levels, from beginners establishing foundational technique to advanced performers preparing for recitals, competitions, and collaborative projects. My teaching approach integrates structured exercises, repertoire practice, improvisation, and reflective discussion, cultivating well-rounded musicians who can perform confidently and creatively. I aim to create lessons that are inspiring, motivating, and tailored to individual learning styles. I emphasize an interactive and supportive learning environment. Beginners focus on note reading, rhythm, finger independence, and basic repertoire. Intermediate students enhance touch, dynamics, phrasing, and expressive interpretation. Advanced learners refine technical control, ensemble skills, and complex repertoire mastery. Feedback is continuous, constructive, and encouraging. Lessons are designed to balance technical skill with creativity, supporting students in achieving both proficiency and musical enjoyment. I ensure learners develop confidence, discipline, and artistic freedom. Outside teaching, I remain engaged with piano performance, music theory research, and ensemble collaboration. I mentor students for school performances, community concerts, and competitive stages. Teaching piano allows me to witness students grow technically and artistically, transforming initial uncertainty into expressive musical confidence. My goal is to help learners cultivate skill, creativity, and joy in their musical journey, empowering them to explore piano as both a disciplined art and a personal form of expression.

Learning piano is most effective when students can combine technical precision with creative expression. My lessons focus on finger independence, sight-reading, rhythm exercises, scales, arpeggios, and duet playing. Beginners gain confidence with basic technique, posture, note reading, and simple repertoire, while intermediate learners refine touch, phrasing, dynamics, and interpretive skills. Advanced learners explore ensemble performance, complex repertoire, improvisation, and expressive nuance. Lessons include interactive exercises, guided practice, and real-time feedback to encourage self-awareness, musical intuition, and structured growth. I emphasize a balance between disciplined practice and musical joy, ensuring students develop both skill and artistic voice. Each session nurtures creativity, patience, and consistency, empowering learners to explore music beyond the sheet. I support students in becoming confident performers, capable of expressing themselves individually or collaboratively, whether in school, community ensembles, or solo recitals.

Lesson planning is personalized to skill level and learning goals. Beginners focus on posture, finger independence, and reading fluency. Intermediate learners work on tone control, phrasing, rhythm precision, and basic improvisation. Advanced learners explore performance techniques, ensemble coordination, and advanced repertoire interpretation. Every session incorporates exercises, repertoire practice, and reflective discussion. Feedback is constructive and continuous, ensuring progress and confidence. Lessons are designed to foster musical creativity, technical precision, and emotional expression, helping students build both competence and enjoyment. By integrating technical mastery with artistic exploration, learners develop a lifelong appreciation and proficiency in piano performance.

Over time, students enhance musical memory, coordination, and interpretive skill. They develop rhythmic awareness, tone control, and the ability to collaborate in ensemble settings. Lessons cultivate both discipline and expressive freedom, supporting learners in achieving personal musical goals. Students gradually become more confident performers, capable of independent practice, creative improvisation, and emotional communication through music. My approach encourages exploration, reflection, and a deeper understanding of musical structure, preparing learners for school performances, competitions, or personal artistic fulfillment. I aim to create pianists who combine technical skill, expressive depth, and joy in every note they play.
