About Leah

As a dedicated piano tutor with 6 years of experience, I have honed my skills in teaching students of all ages and abilities. My specialization in jazz, improvisation, and music theory allows me to provide a well-rounded and enriching musical education. My approach to teaching is highly personalized, focusing on each student's unique goals and interests. Whether you're a beginner learning the basics or an advanced player looking to refine your skills, my tailored lessons are designed to help you achieve your musical aspirations.

Beyond teaching piano, I have a deep passion for music that extends into various hobbies and interests. I enjoy exploring different musical genres and styles, constantly seeking new inspiration and techniques to incorporate into my lessons. My love for jazz, in particular, drives me to continuously improve my improvisational skills and understand the intricacies of this dynamic genre. I also find great joy in composing my own music, which allows me to express my creativity and develop new teaching materials that resonate with my students.

Outside of music, I have a range of hobbies that keep me balanced and inspired. Reading is a favorite pastime, offering a window into different worlds and ideas that fuel my creativity. I also enjoy hiking, which provides a refreshing escape into nature and helps me stay physically active. Photography is another passion of mine, allowing me to capture and share the beauty I encounter in my surroundings. These diverse interests not only enrich my life but also enhance my teaching, as they provide me with fresh perspectives and ideas to bring into the classroom.

With 6 years of experience as a piano tutor, my lessons are designed to inspire and engage students of all ages and skill levels. Specializing in jazz, improvisation, and music theory, I create a learning environment that is both challenging and supportive. My approach is highly personalized, ensuring that each student receives instruction tailored to their individual goals and interests. Whether you're a novice eager to learn the basics or an advanced player looking to refine your technique, my lessons are crafted to help you achieve your musical ambitions.

In my lessons, I emphasize the importance of a solid foundation in music theory and technique. Understanding the fundamentals is crucial for any pianist, and I ensure my students grasp these concepts through a combination of theory lessons and practical exercises. We explore scales, chords, and key signatures, and apply this knowledge to real pieces of music. This structured approach not only builds technical proficiency but also enhances musical comprehension, enabling students to play more confidently and expressively.

Beyond the technical aspects, I encourage creativity and self-expression through improvisation and jazz. Improvisation is a powerful tool for developing musical intuition and confidence, and I guide my students through exercises that help them explore their own unique musical voice. In jazz, we delve into its rich history and diverse styles, learning to appreciate its complexity and beauty. By incorporating these elements into my lessons, I aim to cultivate a love for music that goes beyond just playing notes on a page. My goal is to make each lesson an inspiring journey, helping students to elevate their playing and find joy in their musical pursuits.
