About Will

I’ve been teaching guitar, flute and tin whistle professionally for five years, working with students of all ages. I’m a regular guitar tutor with Feisean nan Gaidheal, Scotland’s network of traditional arts tuition for young people, and I run early years musicianship sessions as part of my ongoing teaching work.

Alongside tutoring, I perform professionally as a session musician and founded Dunoon Folk Club, so music isn’t just something I teach it’s my full-time profession. I hold a PVG (the Scottish equivalent of an enhanced DBS), so parents and students can be confident I’m safe to work with children and young people.

About the lesson

Lessons run 30 or 45 minutes, depending on what suits you. I teach mostly by ear, which is the traditional approach for Scottish folk and trad music, but I provide notation alongside and cover music theory as well. So you’re never without a reference to work from between sessions. I adapt my approach to each student whether that’s structured technique work, learning tunes for fun, or working towards a specific goal. Lessons are relaxed but focused, and I keep things practical and encouraging, whatever stage you’re starting from.
