About Nell
I’m Nell, and I’m an artist and writer based in Hackney Wick.
I studied my BA in Glasgow, my MA in London and then recently I’ve completed the Drawing Year at The Royal Drawing School.
I love to draw and write in my free time - in fact currently I’m writing a book! I also paint, mostly on a large scale and in oil paint.
I have ADHD which majorly affects my life and has in the past interfered with my education. However, I’ve found ways of living with it that means I am able to sustain a freelance career. If given the chance, I would love to tutor somebody with similar needs, as I believe I would understand and be able to motivate them.
I wholeheartedly believe that anybody can be an artist and make incredible art, and given the chance I think I would be a huge help to somebody looking to develop their artistic career.

About the lesson

It is important for me that a comfortable and hopefully fun environment can be created. I’d like to provide tea, coffee and snacks during the sessions, and potentially host them in my flat with my cat for company.
I would begin by showing a short presentation of my work, talking about my education and showing photos of how my practice has evolved over the years.
Next, I would ask for the student to bring out some examples of work that I will have asked them to bring along prior to the session. I am genuinely amazed by any artist creating any work, so I won’t have to feign enthusiasm over it.
Next, we will together lay out a plan for our sessions that we have planned together, giving comfort that everything will be handled in the right amount of time. We then would continue the session working on parts of their coursework or portfolio they’re struggling with, and I will give them objectives to complete for the following session.
In between, I will have art books out on the table to look through and I will suggest some artists to the student, though not too many as to not overwhelm them. I might plan to watch a short documentary.
Ahead of the next session, I would email the plan of the lesson along to the student, with details of what to bring along.
