About Ed

I hold a First-Class Degree in Mathematics from the University of Exeter and have experience teaching in two leading UK independent boarding schools - Blundell’s School and Cranleigh School. Throughout my career, I’ve developed a deep understanding of how to help students build confidence, master key concepts, and reach their full potential in mathematics. After several rewarding years in full-time teaching, I stepped out of the classroom to pursue a professional hockey career — an experience that strengthened my discipline, focus, and ability to perform under pressure. Alongside this, I founded and now run a full-time tutoring business, tutoring students Cranleigh School, Charterhouse, St Catherines, St Johns, Priorsfield amongst others.

I continue to coach hockey at Cranleigh School, balancing this with my tutoring work, hockey career and family life — including raising three young daughters under the age of six! This balance keeps me grounded, organised, and always aware of the importance of patience, encouragement, and motivation in helping young people thrive.

I’m a dedicated Maths tutor who believes that every student can develop confidence and even enjoyment in the subject with the right guidance and support. Many learners find Maths intimidating at first — my role is to change that perception. Through tailored lessons and patient explanations, I help students break down tricky ideas, build lasting understanding, and take ownership of their learning journey. I’ve seen time and again that when students start to see real progress, their confidence grows — and with that, their motivation follows. My mission is to make that transformation happen for every learner I teach. My Core Values • A Supportive Environment: I create a calm, encouraging space where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn without pressure. • Clarity and Consistency: Each lesson follows a clear structure, with detailed feedback and resources to help students stay organised and independent between sessions. What You’ll Experience in My Lessons • Tailored Learning: Every session is planned around your child’s strengths, needs, and goals — no one-size-fits-all approach. • Building Confidence: My teaching focuses on helping students understand why Maths works, not just how, so they feel more capable and positive about the subject. • Inspiring Curiosity: Beyond exam success, I aim to nurture genuine interest and critical thinking — skills that last well beyond the classroom. How Online Lessons Work I teach online using an iPad and interactive digital tools to create a hands-on, visual learning experience. Whether we’re exploring algebra, geometry, calculus, or statistics, this setup makes each session engaging, clear, and easy to follow. Students can see concepts come to life in real time and actively participate throughout the lesson using the interactive whiteboard. What are you waiting for? If your child is ready to feel more confident, capable, and curious about Maths, I’d love to help. Together, we can turn frustration into progress — and progress into genuine enjoyment.
