About Megan
I am a fully qualified teacher in the Uk with a PhD in Molecular Microbiology, an MSc in Biomedical Sciences, a BSc degree in Biology. I am also an examiner for A-level biology. I have extensive experience in scientific research, both in industry and academia with posts held at King’s College London and University College London. Since my academic days I have retrained to gain Qualified Teacher Status and have been teaching for over 12 years in top secondary schools in London and on Foundation courses for students studying biology at UCL. As such, I hold an enhanced DBS certificate.
I have been tutoring for over 8 years and have worked as a full-time career tutor teaching students who need crash course and revision in the run up to exam season. I have also taken on long-term tutees where I have provided support in designing a weekly program to teach the complete GCSE or A-level courses in biology.

As a tutor with vast experience across exam boards (Edexcel, AQA and OCR) I offer a bespoke programme to suit the needs of each individual. I design each lesson according to the learning needs of the individual.
I employ a comprehensive approach to teaching by providing a lay overview and conducting an initial informal assessment to identify areas for development. From there, the finer details are extensively explained, and the common misconceptions clarified.
By paying particular attention to synoptic links across the course, students can gain an understanding of the bigger picture. This supports students’ understanding of the relationships between topics and prepares them for the linear (rather than modular) examination style of the current A-level courses.
My focus is to build confidence in students by finding approaches that help them succeed. I design my teaching resources to suit the individual needs of my students to enhance their progress. Building rapport with my students is an important goal in my teaching style as progress is boosted when my students enjoy their lessons.
Given my experience I like to provide a little extra context that extends outside of the limitations of a curriculum so that students can appreciate the subject in a real-world context. I also urge students to stay in touch over the week between sessions with any questions so that they can be addressed in follow-on sessions to maximise student progress.

Megan is a fantastic biology tutor. She’s diligent, organised and very experienced. She plans her lessons carefully and always makes sure her students fully understand the material. She’s got a great breadth of knowledge and explains things clearly and patiently. I’d definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and supportive tutor.
