My teaching is designed to motivate and concept driven avoiding any memorisation if at all. With my experience, I can help you remember tricky stuff, syndromes and mechanisms that one often forgets. My lessons would be energetic and powerful and would be centred to your requirements.

I break down complex topics into simple, logical frameworks with use of memory aids or images and connect basic sciences with clinical reasoning.

I adapt the depth and pace of teaching based on the student’s level, whether they are a beginner or preparing for professional exams. I engage at every level of university, nursing school, A level or GCSE.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have had almost ten years' experience in teaching students and colleagues. While I was undergoing my medical training and engaged in clinical work, I have always provided mentoring to medical and nursing students, both during and outside of work. I
have always enjoyed explaining difficult medical concepts and assisting people in understanding them more clearly and with greater confidence; it was only this year that I made the decision to turn that experience into a professional private tutoring career.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach across the medical curriculum including Medicine, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Microbiology, Medical Statistics and other core medical school subjects. I also have experience teaching pre-medical subjects and can help students
with such subjects as Human Biology and Zoology. I particularly like to discuss topics where the aim is to understand, rather than simply to remember facts. I like to link different parts of the curriculum to clinical practice. There is a lot of overlap in subject matter with the medical sciences, so I can also teach students in the allied health professions, such as nursing and occupational therapy. I am very adaptable with what I teach and I enjoy working with students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

A pathology tutor I had more than ten years ago was very good at using visual associations to make difficult concepts memorable. I was also lucky to have a great pharmacology teacher and both have had a big impact on how I learn and teach.

What I loved especially was that they paid attention to the smallest details. They focused on making sure we understood the subject, as opposed to just memorizing things.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe a good teacher should be impartial and give equal respect and attention to each and every student. Importantly they should understand that all students are different and adapt their teaching to the individual rather than teaching to a group or a
    one size fits all approach.

Never teach by cramming — A good tutor should never use it. He should meet students where they are and deliver their lesson with patience and kindness, exactly how a mother teaches his own child. And, of course, a good teacher should never be a grumpy figure! :), heheh
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of the things I remember most was helping my colleague when he was having trouble with ophthalmology at school. I took time to explain the intricacies of the subject to him. We went through the matter in detail, and he understood the concepts
well. I helped him get through the examination, and to this day, he reminds me of that situation. The young man is now a urology registrar, and it is pleasing to know that I contributed to his success in medicine, even on a small scale.

For me, that was an especially valuable experience because it showed why I enjoy teaching. Sometimes students do not need more information; all they need is for someone to explain the matter to them in a manner they truly understand.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Medicine as a discipline is constantly evolving, as well as presenting with various difficulties, as with any other subject. One of the challenges that I quite often face when teaching is that sometimes students may struggle to grasp certain concepts or
information that I consider to be integral to the topic.

Therefore, I have to rewind the teaching process, go over the necessary background information, and only then continue discussing the topic. While it can be frustrating, it is always a part of the job, and I am quite adept at navigating these challenges as they come up. I do not see any issues with having to address the lack of prior knowledge, as it helps me identify what a student struggles with and allows me to assist them in overcoming the obstacle. As medicine evolves, there is always something new to learn, which is why I am particularly passionate about the subject.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My work area is medicine; thus, most of my topics are somehow related to various aspects of health. This is my primary domain, and I focus on explaining the relationship of every point to this field in detail. In addition, I can say that I am a big fan of visualizing the material. It is always exciting for me to see the students’ progress and how they start comprehending the subject rather than just memorizing it. Teaching them gives me a great sense of achievement, especially when I see that they truly understand the
    material
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

It is my ability to quickly connect and understand with my students. By the end of the first few minutes of tutoring, I am already aware of their level of expertise or understanding and what I can do to help them individually, rather than simply following
    a generic curriculum.

I avoid memorization and empty gimmicks and focus on explaining the material in such
a way that it becomes clear to the student no matter how complex it is.

Moreover, I always try to encourage and motivate my students to succeed and feel confident about their academic abilities.
Finally, I have extensive experience and a thorough understanding of the subject, as well as a genuine desire to help my students achieve their goals. I believe that as a tutor you’re not someone standing by the door, giving ready answers, but a person
encouraging students to find the answers within themselves.
