About John
As a swimming coach, I had to teach over a wide range of ages and skills, from starter duckling groups up to ASA level 10 students. This gave me the skills to tailor my lessons to the appropriate level of skill. It also challenged my time flexibility as younger groups would have shorter lessons, but I would still need to help them meet the target criteria for the level they were working at.
I have been passionate about making science more understandable for most of my years in education, especially during my degree years. Most students get bogged down in the complexities of science due to the pressure they face, and this ends up being counter-intuitive to the learning process. I like my lessons to be more relaxed where the student can feel less pressure while still helping them understand. I try to blend this with a fun environment such as live demonstrations and an enjoyable atmosphere.
From things such as simple plastics through to the bizarre quantum mechanics, my style of teaching has helped a wide range of audiences and people to understand these topics better.

I have a degree in chemistry from University of York, I also have A-levels in Maths, Chemistry and Physics.
I prefer teaching in hour blocks; however, half-hour or forty-minute sessions still suit me. My teaching style aims to create a fun space for students to learn without pressure and also practise until they feel confident.
My main teaching experience was as a swimming coach, which I integrated into my A-level studies. I have spent most of the time during my degree working on scientific communication.
I believe that the sciences shouldn't be scary to learn and should aim to foster an inquisitive attitude in students and people.
The lessons I aim to teach can range from the basic principles taught at Primary Schools and Secondary Schools all the way through to the advanced topics required for GCSE and A-level content.
