About Doug

I have been a professional musician for my entire adult life. As for music education, I attended Humber College in Toronto. I have spent the last 27 years tutoring sax, clarinet, flute and recorder in addition to my performing activities. Being well-versed in all styles of music from classical to jazz, I am in a good position to teach students in any genre they choose. My philosophy of teaching is to proceed at the student's pace. I have always had best results by taking a somewhat relaxed approach while at the same time providing a challenge.

About the lesson

I believe in a no-pressure approach to learning. I give students technical instruction as well as assigning real music for them to apply their technical knowledge. I prepare students at all levels for auditions, for conservatory exams, for those who need help in the school band and I teach those who simply want to play for sheer enjoyment. I have taught students as young as 6 and as old as 90.

I have known Doug for many years, both as a performer and as a teacher. Judging by his ongoing success as a woodwind tutor, I would highly recommend his services to any student at any level. He is thorough and demanding but establishes a good rapport with his students.
