About Ian

I'm a partly retired teacher who has enjoyed a wonderful career in education. This has taken me to different schools (state and private), different states, and even to different nations. I've worked with primary students and university (and TAFE) students but most of my career I have taught Secondary students, mostly in English but also in History, Geography, HPE, Math and Religion. I am still very sporty, enjoying competition tennis and hockey currently, but many sports over the years. I have now started an organic market garden but I am keen to maintain some teaching and would love to help you. My qualifications are extensive, as is my experience which I would be happy to elaborate on if requested.

About the lesson

I understand you have your own issues. I've seen many, which is helpful, but I aim to discover what content and skill gaps you might have. I aim to challenge you just beyond your current level, but always ensuring you gain a sense of achievement by learning some new skill or understanding.

I offer 30 min or 60 min sessions, recommending the longer for older students. Given my four decades as a teacher, trainer, international consultant and department HOD I have a wide knowledge of texts and deep knowledge of the curriculum. I have taught all ages, from Prep. to university, but secondary English is my specialty. I am highly qualified: MEd (Hons), BA, Dip ED, Dip TESOL, Cert IV TAE and open to students of all ages or English ability.

My goal is to work where you are at, with the curriculum material you have at hand at school or elsewhere. I will add understanding to this but also depth with new material, and then extend you further.

I am pleased to offer my unreserved endorsement for Ian Hoddinott as a tutor. I have had the opportunity to observe him in various professional settings firstly as his principal and later as a friend and colleague.
Ian is amongst the most competent instructors with a comprehensive knowledge of his teaching disciplines. Not only is he well versed in his subjects’ curricula, he also exercises exceptional proficiency in instructional methods that both challenge and engage students learning. He has extensive experience within Australian schools and internationally.
Ian is an energetic and empathetic person who connects with his students and is responsive to feedback and their learning difficulties.
Over the years, Ian has proven himself as a person of integrity, trustworthy and hard working.
Should you wish to contact me, I’m happy to elaborate more on my recommendation of Ian’s as an outstanding teacher.
