About Ben
Im 18 years old and a philosophy student at Durham. Singing and French horn are my main studies and music has been a massive part of my life since I was 5. Ex chorister at Sherborne Abbey. Highest music qualification is an ATCL diploma with distinction (1st year undergrad degree standard) on French horn. Have Grade 5 ABRSM theory, grade 8 Distinction Horn, and was awarded a choral scholarship to Oxford. I've tutored a few people. Over the past two years at school with great success, and tutor my brother on both the trombone, trumpet, and theory to distinction standards.
I'm a reservist soldier which can limit availability, but most weeks I'm free bar tues/Thurs nights and weekends. I strive for excellence in everything I do

My teaching method would be goal-orientated. If a student is working to get their grade 3 theory for example, they would have an official workbook, or past-papers. At first I'd see what standard they're at, they'd go through a paper filling out what they know for sure, then we'd look at the rest and go through it together. I'm a firm believer in understanding why something is the case as well as that it is the case. I believe as musicians we tend to work aurally, so access to a piano (on a phone or tablet even) is ideal but not necessary.
I'm only recently out of school myself, and still in full time education so have a good understanding of what works well or not. I like to think that I'm very adaptable too so can cater to the needs of most individuals.
