About Mariam
Hi! I’m Mariam. I’ve grown up in London my entire life, and always struggled with the education system. I never understood why we needed structures for essays, or why there were so many different terms for different types of words. I just wanted to enjoy writing without the stress. Luckily, I discovered how to enjoy it, while adapting my writing to get the grades and opportunities I looked for. English is a free, creative subject, which is very necessary to succeed, no matter how admittedly boring school makes it.

~ I believe that students learn best when they are engaged. I choose to create a fun, amusing and creative learning space, for children to actively remember what we discuss. A lighthearted environment enables safety — trust to ask questions. ~ I prioritise loose lesson plans which can adapt to the students’ needs, while providing a base. ~ Most understanding comes from trial and error; I provide guidance rather than offering answers. ~ As someone who has struggled with anxiety, I take special care to avoid putting students on the spot, nor allowing judgement. Everybody works at their own pace. ~ Furthermore, I take accommodations for anxious or worried students, allowing them to communicate via text or with their cameras off. ~ Fun homework tasks and short quizzes can be induced to ensure knowledge is recalled.
