About Mina
Hi, I’m Mina! In 2024, I graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a minor in Mandarin. I’m currently pursuing a graduate degree in Biological Sciences at the University at Buffalo (SUNY) as a pre-dental student. I offer tutoring in Math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Pre-Calculus), SAT Math, and basic Korean (e.g. hangul, common vocabulary, and conversational phrases). Growing up, I relied heavily on private tutoring—especially in Math and Mandarin—which helped me build strong academic foundations and inspired me to become a tutor myself. I began tutoring in high school, where I earned a Foundations of Tutoring certificate through Crossroads of Learning and worked closely with middle and elementary school students in Math and Reading. Later, I taught at a prep academy in South Korea, helping students strengthen their skills in Algebra I, Pre-Calculus, and SAT prep (Reading, Writing, and Math) in both English and Korean. I’ve always enjoyed Math and languages. I earned a Gold Certificate in the UK Junior Mathematical Challenge and competed internationally in Mathcounts. I scored an 800 on both the SAT Math section and the Math Level 2 Subject Test, and I earned A’s in advanced Calculus and Mandarin courses at NYU. I also recently scored a 540 (27) on the QR section of the DAT. In high school, I completed the IB Certificate Program, receiving 6s in both Math HL and Mandarin B HL. As someone who understands the challenges of learning, I believe that asking for help is never a weakness—it’s a courageous first step. My goal is to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel confident, heard, and motivated to grow.

As a tutor, my approach is both supportive and structured. I tailor each session to the student’s needs, combining guided practice and problem-solving to reinforce understanding and build confidence. I like to use the textbook being used in the student's class so that we can prepare efficiently. For language learners, I introduce the alphabet and basic vocabulary in a gradual, engaging way.
I start by clarifying session goals, explain concepts simply, walk through examples together, and then provide opportunities for independent practice with support. I may assign light, targeted homework to strengthen retention between sessions.
As a graduate student who received private education from preschool through high school, I understand the challenges of learning and how the right guidance can lead to growth. With tutoring experience in both the U.S. and South Korea—often switching between English and Korean as needed—I bring cultural and academic flexibility to each session.
My lessons are ideal for middle and high school students in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Pre-Calculus, or SAT Math, and for beginners building a foundation in Mandarin or Korean. Whether you're catching up or getting ahead, I’ll guide you with structure, encouragement, and care.
